What to Expect
Setting the Path: What to Expect in Your Personal Journey to Wellness
Welcome
Embarking on a journey toward mental wellness is a brave and significant step. At my practice, I aim to make this process as clear and comforting as possible. Here’s what you can expect when you decide to work with me.
Beginning Your Journey
First Contact
When you reach out to me, either via phone or email, you’ll be greeted with warmth and professionalism. My administrative staff will help you set up your initial appointment and answer any logistical questions you may have regarding scheduling, fees, or insurance.
Your First Visit
Your therapeutic journey will begin with an initial assessment. During this session, we’ll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your personal history, and any specific goals you wish to achieve. This is a time for us to get to know each other and for you to start building a relationship of trust with your therapist.
Therapeutic Approach
A Tailored Experience
Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your unique needs and objectives. This plan will evolve as you progress, ensuring that it remains aligned with your growth.
Evidence-Based Practices
I employ a variety of evidence-based practices to provide the highest standard of care. Depending on your situation, this could include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness techniques, and more.
During Your Sessions
Collaborative Dialogue
Therapy is a two-way street. Sessions are interactive and collaborative, with an emphasis on open communication. I will listen attentively, provide feedback, and guide the conversation in a way that helps you gain insights and develop coping strategies.
Skill-Building
Part of our work together will involve learning new skills. This may include strategies for managing anxiety, techniques for improving mood, or exercises to enhance communication in your relationships.
After Your Sessions
Reflect and Practice
Therapy extends beyond our sessions. You may be given “homework” or encouraged to reflect on our discussions and practice new skills in your daily life. This is a vital part of your growth and helps to reinforce the progress made during sessions.
Confidentiality
Your privacy is paramount. Everything discussed in your sessions is confidential, with a few legal exceptions which will be explained during your first visit. You can feel secure knowing that your personal information is protected.
Continuous Support
Regular Check-Ins
I will regularly check in with you about your therapy experience and how you’re feeling about your progress. Adjustments to your treatment plan will be made as needed to ensure that it remains effective and relevant.
A Supportive Environment
My goal is to provide a supportive environment that fosters healing and growth. You’re encouraged to share openly and to reach out if you’re struggling. I’m here to support you every step of the way.
Your Role in Therapy
Active Participation
The most significant work in therapy often happens outside the therapy room. Your willingness to engage in the process and implement change is crucial to your progress.
Openness to Change
Change can be challenging, but it’s also rewarding. Approaching therapy with an open mind and a readiness to grow will greatly enhance your experience.
